How to sustainably feed 10 billion people by 2050

It is estimated that by 2050 the population of the earth will reach 10 billion people. And as incomes are increasing, people are increasingly consuming high resource animal-based foods. According to an article published by the World Economic Forum, the closure of food, land, and greenhouse gas mitigation gaps, is required to sustainably feed the increasing population. The World Resource Institution has identified 22 solutions that need to be simultaneously implemented to close the gaps. The WRI solutions are related to reducing the growth in demand for food and other agricultural products, increasing food production without expanding agricultural land, protection and restoring natural ecosystems, increasing fish supply and reducing GHG emissions from agricultural production.

The WRI report includes all 22 solutions as well as how they can be implemented. The report can be viewed here.
