3M introduces 100% post-consumer recycled materials

3M has launched a new version of its material ‘Thinsulate™ Insulation’ for use in fashion and clothing. The material, showcased at ISPO in Munich, uses up to 100% post-consumer recycled plastics and fabrics, offering a sustainable alternative to common fabrics such as cotton or down.

Thinsulate™ has been used for many years in skiwear, but the latest version provides “significant improvements in the material’s structure and function”. The three ranges, 3M Thinsulate™ Flame Resistant, 3M Thinsulate™ Water Resistant and 100% recycled Featherless Insulation, made from recycled polyester materials, offers a sustainable, cruelty free alternative that “provides excellent protection even in extreme conditions whilst also being more durable than natural outwear materials tend to be”.
