Case Studies: Human Rights

Wilson Security

We worked with a cross-functional team at Wilson Security to undertake a human rights gap analysis and develop a human rights risk management strategy. We conducted a stakeholder mapping and prioritisation assessment and facilitated the development of a draft stakeholder engagement plan.

Recognising the importance of educating and engaging internal and external stakeholders on human rights risks and impacts, we developed training modules for Wilson Security staff, contractors and suppliers. We also worked with Wilson Security’s governance team to review and update the company’s Human Rights Policy.

Simba Global

SD Strategies supported Simba Global in developing its first Ethical Sourcing Policy which includes human rights and sustainability requirements and reflects Simba’s global values and priorities. We updated Simba’s Supplier Manual and Supplier Scorecard to reflect the Policy commitments. This has resulted in human rights, labour rights and other sustainability criteria being given an appropriate weighting in supplier selection and review processes.

We continue to work with Simba Global to update communication programs and ensure that human rights and sustainability considerations are integrated into decision-making processes.

Migrant Workers Justice Initiative

NSW Aged Care Cluster

As part of the NSW government’s Sustainability Advantage Program, we’ve been working closely with seven not-for-profit aged care providers. We facilitated an interactive workshop to develop a human rights policy for the aged care sector which has been adopted by a number of the participating entities.

The Human Rights Policy links closely to the Aged Care Quality Standards, particularly Standard 1 (Dignity and Choice). The sector recognises that a commitment to human rights will drive safe and quality care and ensure secure and sustainable supply chains.

We worked closely with the Migrant Worker Justice Initiative on a project to lead the international education sector’s response to exploitation of international students in accommodation and work. The project brought together supporting partners including English Australia, Redfern Legal Centre and the Fair Work Ombudsman.

We conducted focus groups, helped develop a nationwide survey of international students, and collate the views of project partners and other stakeholders across the international education sector.
